Whizz in on a private jet to Porto, and you can choose between the city's cosmopolitan life and the Silver Coast's fresh breezes, the run of shoreline that shoots south from here in a medley of oat-topped dunes and legendary surfing waves. Go for the first, and you'll be touring Azulejo-tiled chapels from the 16th century, the tremendous Baroque spires of the Torre dos Clérigos, and the historical wealth of the maze-like Ribeira neighbourhood.
